Bob Thomas was elected to the Knox County Commission District 10 At-Large Seat in 2014. He grew up in Knoxville and attended college in East Tennessee while also playing basketball and baseball. Bob began his broadcasting career when he was a teenager. At one point during his 30 plus years in media, he had the highest-rated midday radio show in America for 16 years. Most recently, he co-hosted one of East Tennessee’s most popular morning talk shows, the Ed and Bob Show. Bob revived the Knoxville Christmas Parade in the 70s and served as its chairman for 16 years. For five years he served on the Board of the Cerebral Palsy Center for handicapped adults with two years as its President. Bob was instrumental in bringing professional hockey back to Knoxville in the late 80’s as the owner of the Knoxville Cherokees, gaining affiliations with the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. For 8 years he promoted over 40 games a year at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Bob serves on the Board of the Dogwood Arts Festival, one of the south’s premiere events and is its Honorary Chairman for the 2014-2015 Festival. He has written TV episodes for one of the most popular Disney TV shows ever and spent several months working alongside Steven Spielberg. Bob is married to Kim Simmons Thomas, a former TV anchor in Knoxville. They have three children and five grandchildren.
